Night Time Economy
The effective management of the night time economy has long been a concern for FoBRA members.

This is a particularly acute concern for city centre residents but is also important to anyone who likes to visit Bath’s festivals, theatres, cinemas, pubs, clubs and restaurants or is concerned with the tourism industry which is so vital to Bath’s economy.
FoBRA members are working with partners to bring the management of the night time economy up to the highest sta ndar ds, and we welcome, with some reservations, existing initiatives such as the Cumulative Impact Policy, and the Purple Flag accreditation of Bath’s night time economy. The aim of this work is to create a city centre environment which fairly balances the legitimate interests of the people who visit, live or work in the city centre. In particular we would like to see:
- A clean, safe and ‘family friendly’ ambience;
- More and more varied eating and drinking establishments catering to all age and social groups
- More alfresco dining in a largely pedestrianised environment;
- Freedom from alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour;
- An obvious but subtle Police presence.
The Federation will support member associations in:
- Pressing for licence and planning conditions which protect the interests of the wider community;
- The work of BANES’s Night Time Economy Steering Group;
- Supporting the recruitment of members to the Nightwatch scheme;
- Working with the City Centre Manager and the Board of the BID to develop, improve and diversify the night time economy;
- Maintaining a dialogue with the Police.
